Seemingly small ideas that change a life It was towards the end of the 1980s when Bobby Dekeyser came up with the idea of creating an outdoor living room. Waterproof furniture that not only withstands sun, rain, and extreme temperatures, but is also remarkably colourfast and structurally sturdy. Dekeyser benefited from his family's wealth of experience, which owned a plastics manufacturing plant. For decades the plant had specialised in making high-quality synthetic products. Bobby Dekeyser used his knowledge to develop a totally new type of fiber, the raw material for the success story. In 1990, at the age of 26, he ended his career as a professional footballer for Bayern Munich and founded DEDON. After seeing wicker furniture at a trade fair in the Philipines, he realised how the outdoor living room could become a reality by combining his fiber with the centuries-old art of weaving on the island of Cebu. The breakthrough came when international designers like Nicolas Thomkins, Jean-Marie Massaud as well as Harry & Camila and EOOS could all be commissioned for award winning projects. In the meantime, DEDON, with its headquarters in Luneberg, Germany, is active in over 80 countries on all five continents, with over 3,000 employees worldwide.
